INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

OUR EDUCATIONAL PHILOSOPHY
Prepare students to apply rigorous academic content learned in the classroom to real life situations while developing each student’s passion for learning.

OUR GOALS ARE TO:
-Provide each child the academic support he or she needs whether it's allowing the child to get through material faster or giving the child additional time to learn the concept.

-Flexible classroom groupings which means fewer students per teacher

-Provide a longer school year and school hours. Students are allowed to be dropped of at 7:00 a.m. and the enrichment activities continue until 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

-Provide hands-on inquiry and project based learning; curriculum that is driven by critical thinking, problem solving, discovery, and exploratory learning. Students are encouraged to create innovative solutions to complex problems working collaboratively with other students. Emphasis on the integration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM).

-Provide mentors from the community to provide support and encouragement to our students.

-Focus on mastery and application of California Common Core State Standards including foundational skills in English Language Arts & Mathematics..

-Keep our school relatively small and grow no larger than two classes per grade. This will enable all teachers and staff to maintain a relationship with our students and allow the academy to be a strong center for the community.

-Create Global Awareness; world language instruction (Spanish, & Mandarin) including American Sign Language (ASL), cultural awareness and sensitivity, and collaborating with students in other countries via technology.

-Focus and build on the diversity of California’s students.

-Integrate health, nutrition, and physical education instruction throughout the day (including yoga and Taekwondo).

-Incorporate art and music into lessons.

-Collaborate with colleges and universities to create partnerships with the science, engineering and math departments.
